Served as a Reach The World Traveler and created 20 original multimedia articles for a virtual classroom exchange with 6th graders in Bronx, NY. Discussed the implications of the Muslim travel ban on the inclusive campus climate for international students and promoted messages of love, compassion and understanding.
During my three months in Jordan, Israel/Palestine and the United Arab Emirates, I was dedicated to exploring the humanistic and cultural commonalities between Arabic culture and my Cuban-American upbringing. I wrote reflective blogs detailing my experiences as a student correspondent for the University of Florida Blog from Abroad and CET Academic Programs' Student Voices Blog. Wrote and edited articles for the UF Health Shands internal newsletter, News and Notes, which is distributed via print and online monthly to 13,000 employees. My feature story on how UF Health employees make wellness a priority was the headlining story for the October 2017 edition of the publication.
During Spring 2016 at the University of Florida I took a class on reporting and became a contributing writer for the university newspaper. I have written several stories, some of which have been featured on the front page of the publication, which is the largest student-run newspaper in the United States, with a daily circulation of 35,000 and readership of over 52,000.
I created a blog to uncover the stories of the diverse people who contribute to the UF microcosm of the globe. Through in-depth interviews, I documented the stories of the people who bring little pieces of culture and perspectives from lands near and far to the Gainesville community.
During my two months in Jordan I studied Arabic at the University of Jordan and also interned for the the Near East Foundation, which is the longest running nonprofit in the Middle East and North African regions. One of my main duties as a public relations intern was conducting field interviews in Arabic and English to document the stories of the individuals we served. Here is the link to a story I wrote on a young women named Ekram Abdullah, who is making her voice heard by advocating for women’s rights and gender equality in the Tafilah Governorate of Jordan.
